Feedback and Testimonials
In the 8 months since Christopher did the programme his ability to sit down and focus on a task has improved hugely. He can now happily write as required at school whereas before he would avoid any writing as far as he possibly could.
We are still working our way through the trigger words and he is enjoying doing this - it is getting easier as we go along. His teachers tell me he is much more involved in lessons and is much more prepared to contribute (he was previously very quiet in class, not wanting to offer any answers or draw attention to himself).
MATHS. Having gained so much from the initial programme he went on to the maths programme a few months later. He has always struggled with maths to the point that he couldn't learn his times tables or tell the time and had really 'opted out' in school maths. From the very beginning of the programme a light bulb seemed to go on and as he happily admits his understanding has improved enormously. His tables are coming along (he nearly knows them all now) and he is keen to use his watch at last.
It was quite shocking to me to realise how difficult it is for a picture thinker to grasp some of the word meanings in maths as they are used at school. For example, when asked to put numbers in order, largest first, he looked for the physically largest number! Things that seemed obvious to me, he understood as something totally different. This completely threw him off balance since these questions seemed to make no sense, so he had no idea how to answer them.
He now sees that he really can do maths and it has given him a huge boost.
He has really enjoyed coming to Evelyn; her empathy and intuitive understanding of picture thinkers and their special challenges made the programmes really enjoyable for him and he has asked me if he can keep going with the sessions - something that has never happened with any school lessons!
